Hi Mark
Thank you for a great site - it's a wonderful resource.
I am undertaking the Perth to Darwin (i.e. Australia) drive myself in July. I have been looking for a tour provider for a 2 day 4WD tour of the Bungle Bungles (out of Kununurra). The cheapest I can find seems to be about $600 per person. However, I note you indicate a price of $390 for a tour of the Bungle Bungles you undertook.
Can I ask which tour provider you went with? I guess it could also be because prices have risen since you undertook your trip. I am set on a helicopter trip also so want to keep the tour cost down ...
Happy for any advice you have.
Best regards
Dez (Sydney, Australia)

Hi Dez.
I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the company I visited the Bungle Bungles with - I should have written it down, but completely failed to do so. Sorry about that!
As for price, according to the Reserve Bank of Australia's inflation calculator here:
www.rba.gov.au/calculator/annualDecimal.html
Using this, you can see that something costing $390 in 1996 (when I visited the Bungle Bungles) would be worth about $546.34 in 2009, and given current inflation rates of 3.2% in Australia, it would be worth about $565 in 2010. So if you're seeing about $600 per person these days, that's pretty much the same sort of price as I paid, just in modern money.
Bloody hell, that makes me feel old!
Anyway, whatever you pay, it's an absolutely fabulous place to visit, and if you can manage the helicopter flight (which I didn't) then I hear that's amazing. Have fun!
Best wishes,
Mark

Thanks for the advice, Mark.
Geez, 1996 hey? I wonder what some of these places would have been like then. (I assure you I am not trying to make you feel old!)
I went with APT in the end, as they are one of two operators doing such trips. I suspect prices have risen somewhat since your trip, but it's also the kind of experience that's hard to put a dollar value on (and hence, the market is pretty captive).
Anyway Perth to Darwin is a great driving trip.
Thanks again,
Dez

Hi Dez.
Glad you enjoyed it! Things might have changed quite a bit in the last 14 years, but I'm sure the Bungle Bungles themselves are as stunning as ever. It's also good to know that Perth to Darwin is still a great road trip - you wonder what those places were like in 1996, and I wonder what they're like now!
It's a great part of the world, and I'm glad you had a good time. My memories of WA are very happy indeed...
All the best,
Mark
