Mark:
I am sorry to report that I must postpone my JOGLE walk until next year.
Details are on my blog:
http://my1200milesummer.blogspot.com/
Fortunately, it’s only a postponement, and I fully intend to put to good use all the helpful information contributors have provided on your guestbook.

Hi Ken.
Really sorry to hear that, Ken, but I guess it's better to have found out now that halfway through your walk.
It will taste all the sweeter when you get here next year...
Mark

So sorry to hear of your postponement but you are obviously doing the right thing.
Can I thank you for the very supportive comments that you left on my blog. Such support really does help to lift you when the going gets tough. I'm only sorry that I wasn't able to reply directly at the time due to iPhone battery life and connectivity.
Be assured that I am looking forward to reading your blog next year.

Thanks, Mark and Pete. As both of you already know, the long-distance walking community is relatively small. I’ve received good wishes on my blog and by email from so many internet friends whom I’ve never personally met. Thanks to all of you.
The disappointment of having to postpone the walk is already behind me. I’ve turned in my airline tickets and have had the frequent flyer miles restored to my account. I’ve cancelled the B&B reservations and the National Express tickets. The only remnant remaining is the O2 SIM card and my UK phone number. I think I’ll keep those until next spring. I’m back to the thrill of planning the next walk.
Many of you will remember the foot and mouth disease crisis of 2001. I had planned to do the Irish Coast to Coast walk in May of 2001, and recall the discovery of a diseased cow in England in the winter of 2001. I watched intently as the epidemic grew worse, and trails started closing, even in Ireland where there was no infestation. One week before my scheduled departure, I realized that the walk could not happen, and I cancelled the trip. Two years later I did the walk – unbeknownst to me at the time, it was contemporaneous with Mark’s LEJOG. It was by far the best walking adventure I’ve ever had.
While my reason for postponing this year’s JOGLE pales in comparison to the devastation of the foot and mouth crisis, I expect that the final result for me will be the same: when I do JOGLE in 2011, it will be the best walking adventure I’ve ever had. And, believe me, I’ve had more than my share of great walking adventures.

Good for you, Ken - that's a seriously positive attitude you've got there. In fact, it's exactly the kind of attitude you need if you're going to walk from one end of Britain to the other - something tells me it'll be well worth waiting for.
In the meantime I'm subscribed to your blog, and am looking forward to hear about the build-up. The time will fly by!

Mark, I've been reading the exchanges through numerous threads in your guestbook, along with JP's SWCP postings on his Lejog Plod blog. You've all inspired me again. So even though my valve job is 3 weeks away, I've already bought the airline tickets for next year's walk.

Way to go, Ken. I imagine it will be the coolest of moments when you get on that plane with a strong heart in the spring. Meanwhile, there's nothing like a firm date to keep you focused.

Yeah, that's brilliant news, Ken. There's nothing like a definite date in the diary to focus the mind and body, so good or you.
We're with you all the way over here!
