Subject: mapping is a nightmare!

Hi,
Your site and content is AMAZING. Me and a couple of friends are planning a walk from our home town - Chichester - to Edinburgh this August. It's an art project: we are walking the entire way, over 30 days and we arrive (hopefully!) in Edinburgh to - literally - walk onto a stage and perform.

Anyways - I just wanted to thank you for all of this invaluable advice and information. It's been brilliant for us as we plan our little jaunt.
The mapping has been the most taxing part though - we seem to follow the 'north end' of your route (from around Uttoxeter up to Edinburgh) but obviously deviate from thereabouts straight south to Chichester.
Bing and Google Maps are both proving an absolute nightmare to plot. All we need to do is mark 15-20 mile points (a days walk at a time) - but both seem to go a bit squiffy.
Would appreciate some advice if you have any, beyond what's already suggested in your FAQ!
Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Rob.
Glad you're finding the site useful - that's the point! 
I've not tried Bing's mapping capabilities, but I found Google Maps to be a pretty easy way to design maps. I should check - are you using the My Maps feature of Google Maps to create hand-drawn routes from scratch, or are you trying to use the directions feature? If you're using the latter, you'll have real problems editing the routes, as they only go via roads or known tracks. Instead, you want to create a completely new hand-drawn track, as then you can create points anywhere.
