I am doing LEJOG in April 2013 and was looking at the Kinver to Seisdon section given as 20 miles. I could make it by lanes no more than 12 maximum. Where have I gone wrong Question Also accomodation in this area is a bit thin on the ground, at least I have not been able to track down much so far. Any ideas on this Cheers fantastic website by the way BRILLIANT IDEA of yours thanks TREVOR

Hi Trevor.

Don't worry, I had the same problem with that section, as I describe here:

www.landsendjohnogroats.info/the_midlands/23_pattingham.html

It's nothing more than a typo: Kinver to Seisdon is about 11 miles, not 20, as you've spotted. Whoops!

And you're right about accommodation, too; Seisdon is not a good place for B&Bs, and even though I took a different route, I still found it a real pain to find somewhere to stay, and the B&B in Pattingham where I ended up is no longer open. I'm not sure what to suggest, but Google should be able to point you in the right direction, and if it's really difficult you could always stay somewhere that's a short taxi ride away, and come back to the trail in the morning - with only 11 miles to do instead of 20, there should be plenty of time left in the day...

Good luck with the planning, anyway - it's well worth all this bother! Smile

Best wishes,

Mark

Thanks for the reassurance on the Kinver to Seisdon leg glad its just a typing error. I have decided to cover all bases. Idea I will take a Terra Nova Jupiter bivvi as back up,so if no B&B close by on foot or by taxi then at least I will have shelter albeit somewhat cramped Confused I suppose I will have to limit numbers for any tent parties Laughing
Also in case it is not common knowledge a book called B&B nationwide "The Little Green Book is helpful in LEJOG planning available from TI offices or po box 10894 FRINTON ON SEA CO13 3AN It has tel no and prices.

Best Wishes

Trevor

Thanks Trevor - that's a great tip. Finding accommodation was one of aspects of LEJOG that I didn't particularly thrill to, so any help is welcome.

Then again, you sound pretty well prepared - have bivvy, will sleep anywhere! I bet you use it quite a bit; there's something invigorating about waking up in the countryside, at least when the weather is being kind. Fingers crossed... Smile

Enjoy those tent parties... Wink

Best wishes,

Mark

I have some useful information for the american walker trying to get to JOG. There is a direct bus from Inverness ( The Orkney bus ) this connects with the ferry to the Orkneys.
It departs from stand 1 at 7.30am and 2.20pm.
You can contact them on 01955 611352 or book on line, just type inverness to john o groats bus into google. I will be getting to Inverness from jog myself at the end of my walk using this service in reverse of course in this way. One note it only runs from 1st June to 2nd September and weather permitting presumably for the ferries.

Best Wishes Trevor

Thanks for the tip, Trevor. For those who don't fancy tackling Google, here's a direct link:

Dear Mark I was flicking through the app store yesterday and I thought wouldnt it be a great idea if there was a LEJOG APP that all end to enders could use on the road containing links to b&b sites tourist info offices campsites and much more as to use your site on the road would mean taking a netbook at least. Unfortunatly my computer knowhow is poor I could not and would not know how to write or set up a blog for example . But someone like yourself easy as boiling an egg. Is it something youd be intereted in doing or anyone else out there. Smile

Hi Trevor.

Doing a LEJOG version of my Tubewalker app has been on my list for the last couple of years, but the challenge is finding the time to do it!

Writing an iPhone app is pretty time-consuming and there are quite a few other things on my list, but I do hope to get round to it one day. The problem is that I don't have as much spare time as I did three years ago when I did my Tubewalker project, so in the meantime I'm trying to do smaller fixes to my site, such as developing a proper design for phone users, so they can use my website out there without needing a netbook, or making sure my route files can be downloaded into apps like Outdoors, so people can follow the route on their phone.

But yes, an iPhone LEJOG app is definitely on the list. No promises on a delivery date, though, as I haven't even started!

Thanks for the suggestion. Smile

Best wishes,

Mark

I read of one walkers dilema of breaking the journey on LEJOG. I intend to catch trains from Glazebrook and then Wigan on sucessive days to stay with relatives in Liverpool always returning to my point of departure the next day. Is this playing the game fairly is this something the LEJOG association would frown on and morally is it in the spirit of the walk Question Confused

Hi Trevor.

Well, from my point of view - and that of most other End-to-End walkers - is that breaking your journey in the way you describe is completely fine. The point about the LEJOG/JOGLE challenge is walking from one of the country to another, and nipping off-piste to visit friends or family, or to take advantage of the B&B in the neighbouring village, is all part of the experience. As long as you come back to the place where you arrived the day before, it makes no difference.

Indeed, some people split up with LEJOG over a number of years, doing it section by section, with weeks or months between sections. I still think that's OK, too, as they've still managed to walk from Land's End to John o'Groats - they've just interspersed it with Real Life. I don't think it takes away from the achievement.

You may find others with different points of view, but the vast majority are completely OK with taking the odd breather. The LEJOG Association certainly don't mind; after all, the only erule is that you have to go from LE to JOG. It doesn't stipulate how you should do that, and neither should it. Smile

Best wishes,

Mark
