Subject: Question re. ship breaking in Alang
Posted: 6 Jan 2005 3:59 pm

Hi Mark;
My first trip to India when I drove a bus from London to Bombay with a load of Aussies in 1966.
I retired a couple of years ago from travel and a life at sea. Now bored I'm thinking of checking if the guys in Alang end up with a load of old marine books and charts that I might pick up there and move to the possible market in Canada and the U.S.
Any ideas?
Good luck and many thanks,
John Dale

Hi John.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question, as I didn't look through much of the stuff on sale (to be honest, I had no idea what most of it was for!). If the ships that roll into Alang have charts on board, then you can bet your bottom dollar that they'll be for sale, but you're best asking one of the sales companies who deal in Alang bits and bobs.

Here's a links page that contains a couple of links to people who deal in stuff from Alang. Check it out and look for dealers who mention Alang (there are at least two that do):

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
